In ancient times, there was an old man named Yu Gong. His home was blocked by two large mountains, Taihang and Wangwu. Every day, he had to take a long detour just to go about his daily life. One day, he gathered his family and said, "Let's work together to move these mountains."
At first, his wife was skeptical. She asked, "How can you possibly move such huge mountains?" But Yu Gong was determined. He said, "Even if I cannot finish this task, my son will continue, and then my grandson, and so on. As long as we keep trying, the mountains will eventually be moved."
A wise man nearby heard about this and laughed, saying, "You are too old and weak to even remove a single grain of sand." Yu Gong replied, "Your wisdom is limited. Even if I die, there will always be people who come after me."
Inspired by Yu Gong's determination, his family worked tirelessly. They carried away the soil and rocks with baskets, throwing them into the sea. The gods took notice and were moved by their perseverance. In the end, they sent two divine beings to help carry away the mountains.
This story teaches us that no obstacle is insurmountable if we have unwavering determination and the courage to persevere.
